On May 22nd, deadly tornadoes swept through Joplin, Missouri, destroying nearly 30 percent of the town. The EF-5 twister with winds measuring up to 200 mph cut a six-mile path through the city destroying the hospital and high school, crushing cars like soda cans and leaving behind only splintered tree trunks and rubble where entire neighborhoods once stood. Over 600 volunteers and 50 dog teams, along with government agencies, are helping in the rescue and recovery efforts. There is some good news, many people on the initial missing or unaccounted for list have been located alive. Yet many are still homeless and in need of assistance.
We at Pacific Cascade Corp./The ParkingZone like to aid in community needs, but the latest disaster in Missouri has hit close to home. Joplin, Missouri is our Controller, Sandy Prue’s home town. She has many friends and family members there directly affected by that massive tornado. We decided donating money was simply not enough; we would organize a parking industry support “Drive”.
So many people have lost their homes, belongings and jobs. Now there is an overwhelming need for clothing, hygiene products, food (pet food), and water. We will be accepting donations of new and used clothing, blankets, bedding, pet food and new hygiene products here at Pacific Cascade. Tax deductible donations will also be accepted at Pacific Cascade (checks are to be made out to the American Red Cross with Joplin, MO recovery in the memo area). Cash donations will be accepted at the Vancouver branch of Regents Bank. All money donations will be sent on to the Joplin chapter of the American Red Cross, and all clothing donations will be shipped to the Joplin chapter of the Salvation Army.
Please join us and give generously to help the efforts in aiding the people of tornado-ravaged Joplin.
We truly appreciate any help you can give. Its times like these that we all need to pull together and help our fellow American neighbors. Please contact Pacific Cascade with any questions 360-574-9313.
Thank you.
